From the website, Mission San José located in San Antonio Texas is the largest and most complete of the Spanish missions in the area often called the "Queen of the Missions" and is part of the San Antonio museums National Historic Park System. Founded in 1720 by Fray Antonio Margil de Jesus to convert Native Americans (particularly the Pampopa, Pasita and Sulujam) to Catholicism and assimilate them into the Spanish culture. The mission was operated for 104 years with most activities ending in 1824. Later is was occupied by military units and fell into disarray. Restoration was started in 1932 and has been under the care of multiple administrations.
